Born in Houston, Texas on April 28th, 1951, I was hearing all types of music and playing in rock bands from the age of 12. I’ve had the music bug since the age of 2 and never stopped playing.
My dad owned Houston Iron and Steel Company. When I was 19 I left this business to pursue music.
I enjoyed showing cutting horses as a teenager and still have this passion.
My high school rock band opened in Beaumont, Texas for “The Who” on their first U.S. tour. From there I got into bluegrass music and played upright bass with the best of “Texas Fiddle Players”. Putting together a bluegrass band called “Bluefield”, we landed the opening of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in 1971. I got my Mickey Mouse degree while playing mandolin and fiddle.
The bluegrass band moved to Nashville in 1973 in search of a recording contract. This is when I first began to find my niche in songwriting.
